| The Basics Of Harmonics
Harmonics are unique sounds that can occur all over the fingerboard. However natural harmonics will occur at the 5th, 7th and 12th frets. These are used a lot in aco ustic guitar styles because the notes are drawn out very evenly and at nice volume levels. To achieve a harmonic, place the pad or tip of any finger of your fretting hand over the 12th fret of any string. Lightly touch the string at this point and pluck the string with your pick You can now remove your finger from the string after you hear the harmonic produced. If you don't hear the harmonic check that your not applying too much pressure against the fret. This is the number one problem that arises when getting used to this technique. Now, try the same approach with the 7th and 5th frets. You'll find that a more sensitive approach is needed when producing harmonics in these lower frets. < /p> There are even harmonics between the 3rd and 4th frets. If you experiment, you'll find them!
